One Foot Taller is an award-winning lighting design company which has been producing elegant durable 3D products for over twenty years. One Foot Taller pieces combine elementary modern lines and utilitarian grace with a drop of quirky humour.

One Foot Taller believes in matching top-notch design with a clear conscience. Sustainability and fair treatment of suppliers makes all that work getting designs into production seem worth it. A heady mix of wanting that fairness... playing with manufacturing like a toy... loving elegance and getting excited by things that work well for people... makes One Foot Taller tick.

There have been some prizes, from 100% Design-Blueprint to the Peugeot Design Awards to the Conran and Liberty Award. The Queen invited us to tea on more than one occasion and you’ll find our work in The International Design Yearbook and Conran Octopus Contemporary Furniture.

The company was founded by Katty Barac and Will White (who’s one foot taller than Katty) when they graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1995. After 5 happy years manufacturing fine products, Will decided to explore elsewhere, becoming head of Dyson's Product Innovation before finding his vocation as a fantastic jeweller. Since, then Katty’s vision has led to a focus on lighting for home and commercial use, and on public furniture commissions. To balance with these larger products, ranges of limited-run hand-finished homewares are developed, giving her the opportunity to keep experimenting with local ecological materials in interesting ways.

One Foot Taller is based in Glasgow, GB, but Katty also now runs it from her studio and workshops in rural France, where she lives with her husband Quinny and their two children, Ella and Dylan. This environment is great for seeing far too many birds and sheep out of the studio window.
