We have recently been working with a new factory to bring our customers a range of high quality remote controlled adjustable beds.
Adjustable beds were once considered to be an extra skeletal support tool that belongs only in hospitals.
Nowadays, things are a lot different. More and more people are beginning to appreciate the role of adjustable beds in the maintenance of good health and recovery from health conditions. According to research conducted by Sciencedirect on randomly selected male and female subjects who were experiencing some form of musculoskeletal pain, there was a significant pain reduction in those who slept on enhanced/adjustable beds.
Although your regular standard bed will do just fine the majority of the time, there is a higher chance of recovering from health conditions and enjoying more comfort if you switch to an adjustable bed.
In this article, we’ll take a look at several benefits of adjustable beds and try to show you a few health challenges you can overcome by sleeping on one.
9 HEALTH BENEFITS OF SLEEPING ON AN ADJUSTABLE BED
1. For Proper Circulation
The quality of sleep you have at night depends largely on the quality of the flow of your circulatory system. According to Michael Decker, RN, Ph.D, spokesperson at the US academy of sleep medicine,”the quality of mattress and bed can affect sleep”. When we sleep, pressure stops blood from flowing to the pressured parts of the body which in turn have an impact on the quality of sleep that we eventually have.
With an adjustable bed, you can assume sleeping positions that will reduce pressure allowing for increased blood flow to the heart and the entire body. People with specific circulation issues can adjust their mattress using the adjustable frame to recommended levels that will increase the free flow of blood and oxygen throughout the whole body.
2. Lighten Back Pain
With an adjustable bed, you can greatly improve painful health conditions like Sciatica which results from the confinement of nerves at the spine base. By adjusting the mattress at the foot and head regions, you will create a surface for your back to rest on. This cushions the spine and reduces the pressure on the sciatic nerve.
The base of the adjustable bed can be positioned in a way that supports the contour of the whole body. Doing this will guarantee a more comfortable and restful night sleep. Pain resulting from the inflammation of the sciatic nerve can be notorious when they do occur. This largely due to the fact that they are nerves that run from the spine all the way down to the buttocks and both legs. Inflammation of the sciatic nerve can trigger lower back pain, numbness of the legs and feet, and stubborn leg pain.
While there are medications to help relieve these pains, adjustable beds will make the recovery process a lot faster. According to a research conducted on men and women aged 29-30, test subjects were found to wake up more often in the morning without back pains when they slept on adjustable beds than they did when they were sleeping on standard flat beds.
There are recommended positions to assume during sleep to curb certain health challenges and pains. For example, a person with a sciatic nerve-related pain only needs to adjust the bed to an angle of 45 degrees. Doing this will greatly reduce the compression on the lower back and equally help reduce the pain considerably.
This position also reduces the need for multiple pillows and helps to prevent neck-related pain. To take undue pressure off the spine, all you need to do is to raise the foot region of the bed a bit higher. This will keep the knee bent and the legs levitated enough to provide more comfort for the spine.
3. Improves Digestion Processes
While the body sleeps, digestion and other food processing functions do not stop. Scientific research has shown that lying flat while sleeping slows down or totally impedes the digestion processes. Which is why many people wake up with stomach trouble sometimes. With an adjustable bed frame, you can tilt the head to the recommended 6-inches that allows for the smooth digestion of food while we sleep. This reduces the chances of you waking up with stomach troubles in the morning.
Of course – also ensuring that you do not eat too soon before going to bed will help a lot too.
4. Prevents and Relieves Arthritis
An adjustable bed frame is a useful tool when dealing with chronic arthritis and other related pain. To aid the recovery process, try to relieve stiff areas and joints by positioning the mattress in a way that takes the pressure and weight off the problem areas completely. This allows for more comfortable rest and fast-tracks the recovery process. Morning stiffness that arises from pain can be remedied by tilting the adjustable bed accordingly. All you need to do is to raise the head and lower the foot of the bed so that it acts as an aid when rising from bed in the morning.
5. Remedy For Sleep Apnea, Snoring, and Asthma
Lying flat is the reason why most people snore. Adopting this position while sleeping prompts the neck to put pressure on the windpipe which closes it up and generates the awful sound we all know as snoring.
With the adjustable frame of the bed, the head can be lifted to generate enough gravity that takes the pressure off the windpipe to reduce the snoring habit.
In the same vein, breathing-related problems such as sleep apnea and asthma can be reduced greatly by sleeping on an adjustable bed frame that allows the head to be raised. With an adjustable bed frame, you can sleep in an angled position that enhances airflow, opens nasal pathways which allow for comfortable and an uninterrupted nights sleep. Also, oxygen that is restricted when lying flat is released and the chances of asthma during sleep are greatly reduced. A lifted head reduces sinus pressure.
6. Remedy Leg Swelling
Quite a number of people are suffering from swollen legs. This includes pregnant women, people suffering from an injured limb, and those struggling with illnesses.
Lying flat on a standard bed ensures that fluid gathers up at strategic areas of the body. This causes pain, inflammation, swelling and makes waking up in the morning a constant struggle.
Medical experts advise that legs should be elevated to avoid fluid accumulation and to increase comfort during and after sleep. An adjustable bed will make this very easy to do. By adjusting its base, you can raise your legs and greatly reduce swelling and pain.
Raising the legs with an adjustable bed can also help people who have to work on their feet all day long. With their legs raised while they sleep, they can reduce the chances of suffering from limb problems like varicose veins.
7. To Reduce Insomnia
Regardless of the cause of your insomnia, with an adjustable bed, you can assume different sleeping positions that will lead to a more comfortable nights rest.
Maintaining a proper sleep position will enhance blood and oxygen circulation to bring out the ease that prompts one to sleep.
Also, with an adjustable bed frame, mattress and positional distractions are greatly reduced. People suffering from insomnia can benefit from this. Dr. Clete A. Kushida, Ph.D of Stanford’s Centre for Sleep Research says that “people suffering from insomnia are most affected by night distractions” This means they’ll get more sleep with less distractions at night.
8. To reduce Acid Reflux and Heartburn
Heartburn and acid reflux can occur even if you did not go to bed with a full stomach. This is because when you sleep on a flatbed, acid from your stomach flows from the stomach to the oesophagus. This unnatural migration of acids, leads to the feeling of acid reflux and heartburn. Experts have recommended a 5-6 inch inclining of the head to prevent the acid in the stomach from migrating to the oesophagus. A publication in the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology suggests after a series of test on acid reflux patients that bed head elevation reduced symptoms of esophageal parameters and heartburn. Elevating the head using an adjustable bed when there are no symptoms, reduces the chances of nocturnal heartburn and enhances food digestion during sleep.
9. Increase Independence
Failing health is a challenge no one wants to encounter. It generates discomfort and in most cases, impedes free body movements. This is even more evident when one needs to get up from the bed in the morning. With an adjustable bed, you can decrease these difficulties greatly. By adjusting the base of the frame, getting in and out of bed won’t be as difficult as it once was. External assistance will also not be needed as you will be able to leave or get onto the bed with minimum fuss. You can also lift the mattress off the frame easily by adjusting the base. Replacing it also follows the same simple procedure. This increases your freedom and let’s you enjoy some privacy too.
